At True Builders, one of our favorite projects to do is a kitchen remodel. It's a room where our customers spend a lot of time cooking, entertaining, and hanging out with the family. It also helps give homes a facelift and can be a great return on investment for the homeowner. So when the Geers in Brandon, FL, called us asking to consult on their new kitchen remodeling project, we jumped at the chance to help them plan out the kitchen they'd always dreamed of.

Creating an Open-Concept Kitchen Design & Plan
One of the first things we noticed about the Geers' existing kitchen was that it seemed closed off to the rest of the home. We worked to create an open-concept kitchen design and plan that would remove some walls and really open up their existing space to give them more room within the main area. Open-concept kitchens allow for everyone to be involved in whatever is going on throughout the rest of the home.
At True Builders, we have an on-site showroom where the Geers were able to come visit and pick out the exact materials they wanted for their new kitchen.
We also opted to install some nice, brighter flooring in the kitchen, living room, and dining room. Using the same flooring throughout created a more cohesive feel and made the entire area feel lighter. Our team also repainted the area with a light grey color to go along with the new features of the kitchen.
Tearing Down Existing Walls to Make Room for New Cabinets & Granite Countertops
We first had to remove existing walls so we could execute our open-concept kitchen plan. While their previous cabinets were white, they felt a bit dated and their darker countertops made the room feel smaller. We decided to keep the white color, but installed cabinets that were more up-to-date with a sleeker feel and different handles. By removing the existing walls, we were also able to create more storage areas and install extra cabinets along one of the walls—including a wine rack that will come in handy for all the entertaining they will be doing!
They chose granite countertops for their new kitchen, which was an excellent choice. Granite countertops are durable and scratch-resistant, as well as easy to maintain. Other types of countertops require more maintenance. As long as the granite is properly sealed after installation, it should only need a bit of soap and water to keep it clean.
Granite countertops can also contribute to increasing your home's value, as they are a valuable differentiator for potential buyers.
Replacing Existing Lighting & Ceiling with Updated Fixtures
The Geers' original kitchen had a recessed ceiling that we decided to replace. We took the existing halogen fixtures out and replaced those as well with LED lighting, which is brighter and more energy-efficient. The hanging fixtures were also updated with new, sleek lights that beautifully complement the new cabinets and countertops.
Adding Additional Seating Creates More Space for Entertaining Guests, Friends, & Family
Included in our kitchen design plan was a way to add additional seating throughout the area. We extended the countertops to create an area for bar seating and also added a bench where cushions can be placed for guests, friends, and family to sit and enjoy the space. Underneath the bench, we added doors for even more storage in the kitchen space.
